Here's a couple of  photos of today's beautiful Sun. Lots of nice activities going on despite the fact that the Sun is heading for a activity minimum in the solar cycle. Including a closeup shot of today's big beautiful prominence.  Taken using a Lunt LS80THa telescope with a PointGrey Grasshopper 3 camera.

Earth to Moon solar filament

Here's a photo I took of the Sun today showing one huge filament stretching over the surface of the Sun. I've included a scale sized Earth and Moon and the distance between them and as you can see, the filament is just about the same length as the distance from Earth to the Moon. Otherwise the Sun was quite calm but this filament was very impressive through my solar telescope.

Vacker protuberans / Beautiful prominence

Idag var det en hel del fina detaljer på solen, men det som stack ut mest var denna protuberans som släppt. Otroligt vackert att se hur den hängde fritt över solskivan. Jag passade på att ta en närbild av denna protuberans och jag har sedan lagt in ett jordklot i skalenlig storlek för att ni skall få en uppfattning om hur stora dessa eldsflammor verkligen är.

Today there was a lot of fine detail in the sun, but the thing that stod out the most was this prominence that had released. Incredibly beautiful to see how it hung freely over the solar disk. I took the opportunity to take a close-up shot of this prominence and I've added a scaled size Earth so you can get an idea of how big these fire flames really are.

Stor protuberans

De dagar då solen tittar fram mellan molnen brukar jag titta på den med mitt lilla portabla solteleskop för att se om något spännande händer på den. Imorse fick jag se denna bjässe till protuberans, så det var bara att plocka fram de större prylarna och föreviga denna vackra gigant. Efter fotograferingen satt jag i nästan en timma och beundrade denna skönhet genom mitt solteleskop. Det är rätt svindlande att tänka hur mycket energi som är i rörelse.

Whenever the Sun is visible I usually check if there's something interesting going on. This morning this big prominence was clearly visible in my small solar telescope, so I just had to go get my bigger scope to get a photo of this beauty. After taking this shot I sat for almost an hour and watched how it change. Really mind blowing to think how much energy that are in motion.

Stora protuberanser / Big prominences

Igår visade sig solen från sin bästa sida. Dels en väldigt stor solfläck med mycket intressanta detaljer runt omkring. Men framför allt två områden med riktigt stora protuberanser (gas- och plasma som kastas ut från solens yta). Jag har lagt in ett skalenligt jordklot som referens och som ni ser är protuberansen till vänster i bild, högre än 10 jordklot staplade på varandra. Förhoppningsvis hinner jag idag fånga lite närbilder av den stora solfläck som nu dominerar solskivan.

Heres a photo from yesterday showing two big prominences (gas and plasma extending outward from the Suns surface) . The big prominence on the left has a height of more than ten earth diameters. Hopefully today I will be able to capture some closeups of the big sunspot that now dominates the Suns surface.
